Maternity and Families Service
The Maternity and Families Service At Project 6 is a discreet area of service provision targeting the needs of pregnant substance users and their partners.
The project provides access to direct service interventions to individuals that are concerned about their own or someone else’s substance use.
We provide advice and information to enable individuals to reduce the risk and harms associated with their substance use. Additionally, we provide Structured Treatment to those individuals who are ready to address their substance use problems and move towards a drug free lifestyle.
The service provides direct substance use interventions to women as part of their antenatal care, so that they can use the opportunity that their pregnancy provides to make lasting changes to their substance use. This service is provided in partnership with Keighley’s specialist prescribing agency-ACCADT and the Airedale Midwifery Service. Our overriding aim is to provide the most effective antenatal care to improve the life chances of the substance users and their babies. Where appropriate, support is also provided to partners.
In the last year we have substantially developed this area of service provision with the addition of our Post Natal Service. This development has allowed us to continue the care and support to these families until each child reaches its first birthday. We are committed to sustaining and enhancing the Treatment gains, which the service users have made during their pregnancy. The majority of our postnatal interventions are delivered at the service users home.
Finally, we have identified the need to develop our pre pregnancy advice and support further in the coming year.
